What Does It Mean to Be Fully Alive?

As I prepare to write my first book, I’ve been questioning what it means to feel fully alive. Last year, when I taught my course “The Art of Living Fully” to 24 women in West Virginia here are some of the answers participants shared when I asked them that question.

Being fully alive means:

 • knowing myself; having peace and harmony;
 • waking every day feeling alive and grounded;
 • experiencing everything life has to offer;
 • finding and liking my authentic self;
 • being able to love;
 • learning to enjoy the present moment;
 • being happy and being able to hold on to that feeling;
 • being creative; always seeing new challenges and horizons and having the courage to move forward;
 • knowing it’s okay to “be” when I can’t “do”;
 • having a purpose and plan so I don’t commit to “too much”;
 • being joyous, energetic and knowing all is well...seeking nothing!

Those comments fascinate me! How would you answer the question...what does it mean to ME to feel fully alive?

My answer? For me, it’s about being HOME. Knowing that I am feeling, being and doing all that I am in each and every moment. It’s about being TOTALLY connected with my essence and free from any thought that takes me away from love and joyful self-expression.

In recent years, I’ve found a way to experience that state more and more. The experience is awesome and I want to share it! Do let me know wha you think YOU need to know in order to live fully alive and joyfully self-expressed!

Linda,
I am enjoying your class so much and also enjoy reading your blog. Just thought I’d let you know how something you have taught helped me this week. I was enjoying the beautiful weather Wednesday and had had a great morning. I was on my way home when a car decided to share my half of the road. I was very fortunate to be able to get almost off the road. Unfortunately the guy behind me did not see what was coming and a collision occurred. I did sustain minimal damage to my car, but was very grateful to sustain no physical harm. My nerves were pretty jangled for the rest of the day. When I went to bed I just couldn’t relax. I remembered what you said about a quiet mind. Surprisingly I was able to quiet my mind and my body relaxed and I went to sleep. It works!
Judy Tatanish

Judy—Thank you so much for this comment! I, too, have found simply letting my mind quiet by not taking thoughts too seriously enormously helpful in avoiding insomnia. I can’t do it all the time, but much of the time it is a golden blessing! I’m so very glad you were not hurt in the accident! Linda
