Reading a blog today on the importance of creativity at http://www.corante.com/ideaflow/ reminded me why I think it’s so important to be in service of intuitive, creative women.
For one thing, alot of Americans appreciate the value of creativity expressed via artistic outlets. The Ideaflow blog references a recent study done by the Pew Center for the Internet and American Life which showed the 57 % of Americans (114 million) pursue artistic creation (play an instrument, paint, draw, dance); a smaller group of those (32 million) self-identify as artists and an even smaller group (10 million) receive compensation for their work. I think it’s wonderful to bring beauty to life through artistic self-expression! In doing so, we enjoy our humanity and inspire others!
But there’s a larger picture. I believe that it’s more important than ever for you and I to tap into our innate creativity so that we can find wise, compassionate, inclusive, collaborative, common sense, practical solutions to the life challenges we face.
I do not believe creativity is a talent or a skill that must be learned or worked at. I believe it’s an innate gift—a deep wisdom, power and genius that can infuse anything we have the inclination to do—artistic or otherwise. Reaching our highest potential is about releasing the shutters that we innocently put around that gift.
One way to release those shutters is to celebrate our artistic natures. Another is to play!!! On this 4th of July week-end, please PLAY safely! And if your idea of PLAY includes art-making, may you find the time on this wonderful long week-end to indulge your love. We’ll talk next week....
