Befriend Your Mind

Unleash Your Creative Spirit: Invitation for the Day

I invite you to put a sticky note where you will see it often today that asks, “What is my state of mind?” Then, when you can, just notice the condition of your thinking.

If your Mind were an acquaintance, how would you describe her? Is she warm, orderly, calm, positive, joyful, quiet, friendly, beautiful, inviting? Or cluttered, busy, shabby, driven, cold, negative, critical, or worse, even hostile?

How often is your state of Mind a friend you would like to have? If you were a creative thought, which state of Mind would be more welcoming?

What percentage of your day, today, will be spent living from a calm, quiet state of mind? What percentage will be spent in busy-ness, negativity or stressful thinking?

You are the thinker of your thoughts. You can befriend your own Mind. When you meet a new friend, the first thing you do is get to know her by spending time with her, asking questions, listening and observing.

If you notice that your state of mind currently is NOT the kind of friend you really want to have (she’s too critical, negative, busy, driven, stressed or overwhelmed) try not to judge her. As we move along and you test out a new way of relating to her, she will show her truer colors.

So go ahead, make a decision to befriend your Mind in the days ahead...and, for now, just try to observe her from a place of love, wonder and interest.

If you have any thoughts or questions about the process of getting to know your own mind, do post them....until tomorrow, Linda.

This was such a timely blog for me to read.  I needed to be reminded of the peace of a quiet state of mind.  The concept of befriending my mind is new to me and I am enjoying it immensely.  I’m looking forward to the rest of the day to observe, ask questions, and listen.

Linda, I’m new at this and thought I had signed the previous post, but apparently that didn’t happen.  I’m not anonymous, but Judysmile
